GET IN TOUCH

How did you get started in the Electrical Industry?
Well, that’s quite the story! I finished school in the summer of 1999 and planned to carry on with A-Levels. But after a short time, I realised that path wasn’t for me. Around then, Kevin approached me and asked if I fancied helping him out on a few jobs, as he had just started his company.
I jumped at the chance. It began as a trial period for a few months while Kev’s workload was growing – and 26 years later, I’m still here!
After a year “on the tools”, as we tradesmen say, I was accepted into college to take my electrician courses. By 2002, I had become a fully qualified electrician. What a result – I was over the moon.
At the young age of 18, I had already had two years’ experience in the trade, and I began taking on lead roles on projects. I was even supplied with a van. You realise how quickly you start becoming an adult when you’re trusted with responsibilities like that.
I also have to mention a big thank you to Kevin. To this day, I’m grateful for all the support he’s given me and for how much he has invested in me over the years. As a mentor, he’s been incredible. We really bounce off each other at work and have built a strong, professional friendship.
What does your role as Director involve on a day-to-day basis?
My role as Director… where do I start? I actively oversee the whole business whilst still carrying out my duties as Contracts manager and QS for the NICEIC.
On a day-to-day basis, my work includes quoting, installing, and talking on various office roles to keep everything running smoothly.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The moment I wake up, I often think to myself, “What do I have in store today?” This job is never the same – there’s always something new on the horizon. That’s what keeps the work exciting and rewarding.
What’s been the proudest moment in your career so far?
When I look back on my career, I realise I have so many proud moments: becoming an electrician, an electrical supervisor, a commissioning engineer, passing my testing and inspection qualification a Contracts Manager, the QS for the NICEIC, and eventually a Director. But my greatest achievement has to be watching the company grow – from Kevin’s kitchen to a successful electrical business with an outstanding reputation.
How would you describe your approach to managing projects and teams?
My approach to managing projects and teams is built on professionalism and pride in everything that we do – not just from me, but from the incredible teams who carry out all the hard work. The installation teams don’t always see the hours of planning and coordination happening in the background to make each project run smoothly, but when you believe in what you’re doing, they believe as well.
What’s something about your job that people often don’t realise?
What people don’t know about me is that I can come across as someone who doesn’t take any nonsense – but deep down, I’m really a softy.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
This one is easy – I love holidays, I can’t get enough of them! In my spare time, you’ll usually find me watching my son play football or my daughter at her dance shows. They are my biggest achievements in life. And when we’re not doing that, me and my son are always at the Villa ground watching the mighty Aston Villa. UTV!
The Team
The team we have is outstanding – their dedication and commitment is second to none. Everyone should be proud of the achievements we’ve reached so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
